Atahua is a character in the third installment of the Battle Arena Toshinden series. He made his first and only appearance in Battle Arena Toshinden 3 , as an unlockable counterpart to Ellis, with a similar moveset to her.

Story[]

Atahua is a Peruvian teenage tribesman who seeks the full restoration of his fallen tribe's ancient empire. Raised on the strong beliefs that his fallen tribe's ancient empire was considered the most powerful in both Peruvian and South American history, Atahua had done everything he could in order to preserve the legacy of his people's own historical past.

With the help of his mentor and adoptive father Tau, Atahua had decided to join the Soshiki in the hopes of restoring his tribe's empire through the help of Abel. However, Abel had told Atahua that if he had wanted his long-sought dream to come true, he would have to be an assassin for him and eliminate a certain fighter that was to come to the third Toshindaibukai, of which Abel was hosting.

Within time, Atahua had learned that his target was a teenage girl named Ellis.

Atahua had spent the next few weeks training himself so that he could copy and mimic Ellis' fighting style from point to point. When the third Toshindaibukai had finally arrived, Atahua had confronted Ellis from within their match and battled against her with all of his might, hoping to fulfill his personal ambition.

However, the fight between Atahua and Ellis had came to an unexpected end when Tau had suddenly appeared and told Atahua to forfeit the match. Through the explanation of Tau, Atahua had learned and realized that his ancestors wouldn't have been proud of his recent actions and that the murder of a fighter couldn't justify the means of restoring an ancient empire.

Realizing that his adoptive father was correct, Atahua had agreed with him on his idea and forfeited his match, understanding now that fighting a pointless battle wouldn't grant his own wish. Since the defeat of the Soshiki, Atahua and Tau have gone back to South America so that they can preserve the legacy of their tribe's empire through the right means of method.

Trivia[]

  • Atahua is one of two hidden characters whose counterpart is of the opposite gender (Atahua is male while Ellis is female; Cuiling is another, where she is the female counterpart to the male Bayhou)
  • Atahua is one of the few Organization members to survive the events of Toshinden 3 (the other ones being Tau, Cuiling, Rachael, and Vermilion).
  • His name is likely derived from the last legendary king of the Incas, Atahualpa, whose death is famous for his bail ransom to be paid with the Treasure of the Llanganatis.
  • Him wearing a stuffed eagle as a hat on his head is likely inspired by the South American Andes Mountain regional holiday and event known as Takanakuy, where on December 25th or Christmas Day in the Northern Hemisphere, communities and their citizens from all ages and genders engage in ceremonial regulated and encouraged head to head fist fights to relieve neighborly tensions and disputes. The stuffed eagle is a part of one of several costumes worn to Takanakuy duels, from the Quarawatanna costume style, which appeals to younger fighters because of its more fearsome look.
  • Him being a Native South American tribesman and a more affable and redeemable Organization counterpart is believed to be due to Ellis' Peter Pan inspirations; he may reference the Piccaninny Tribes of Neverland Plains, where they fiercely oppose Captain Hook and his pirates, but are forced to capture the Lost Boys as Chief Great Big Little Panther's daughter Tiger Lily is held hostage by them.
